An important part of having a healthy relationship with food is to pay attention to what we are eating. Many of us gobble our food at our desks, in the car, while watching TV. and consume way too many calories and still feel unsatisfied.
Mindful eating connects you to your food and body and is a great way to feel satisfied with your meal and improve your digestion.
First when you sit down to eat take 3 deep long breaths in and out to relax your body. Letting go of stress before you eat improves digestion.
Next, take the time to be grateful for your food that is going to give your body the nutrients that it needs.
Then, look at your food and consider where it came from. How did it get to your plate? Think of the farmers, field hands, truck drivers, clerks and finally how you prepared it.
When you are eating… Just eat, don’t answer the phone or watch screens. Chew your food 25 times between bites and put the fork down between bites.
Close your eyes and enjoy the texture, taste and smell of the food. Notice when you are feeling full.
Practicing mindful eating is a great way to improve your relationship with food and connect to your body! Enjoy!
